What is artherosclerosis?
Artherosclerosis is a condition in which the arteries of the heart harden & narrow down restricting the blood flow through the body. Factors such as high blood pressure, smoking and high cholesterol causes a damage to the internal walls of the arteries causing the cholesterol to collect on the walls of the arteries. This deposition is called plaque. This plaque hardens over years and blocks the blood flow through the heart leading to stroke or heart attack.
